A New Chapter for Sundial Wire
A Surprise Discovery
Last July, I was surprised to see the announcement that Sundial would no longer be making wire - and to "get it while it lasts." Like many of you, I went straight to the website to see what was still in stock. That's when I noticed the phone number had a 413 area code - western Massachusetts, where I've lived and spent summers for years.
I picked up the phone and spoke with Ian, who invited me to come down and see things for myself. After a long conversation and a tour of the workshop, I asked if he thought the owners might be open to selling the business.
My Background
Backing up a little: my name is Aaron. I've been a Sundial customer on and off for over a decade. While today I'm a technology entrepreneur, my background and first love was theater production - specifically lighting and sound design. I've been wiring things up, big and small, since I was 16, and I still take on electronics and wiring projects as a hobby.
When I first met Hilary, I told her (as corny as it sounds) that I have a deep and meaningful relationship with wire. That's why Sundial spoke to me in the first place: I wasn't just buying materials - I was finding something beautiful, crafted with care, that became part of projects I truly cared about. So when I heard Sundial was preparing to close its doors, I couldn't shake the feeling that something special would be lost.
Keeping Sundial Alive
Thankfully, thanks to Hilary's willingness to work with me, that won't happen.
I'm honored to share that Sundial Wire is staying right where it belongs: in the hands of people who love it. My goal is simple - to continue the tradition of making the finest cloth-covered wire available, while keeping the personal care and attention to detail that has always defined this company.
What's Next
Over the coming months, you'll see familiar products returning to stock, along with a few new offerings and improvements we're excited to share. More than anything, you'll still find the same spirit: a company dedicated to serving people who value quality, craft, and a touch of the timeless in their work.
Thank you for being part of Sundial's story. I can't wait to share what comes next. In the meantime, I'd love to hear from you - whether it's questions, feedback, or just to say hello. You can reach me anytime at aaron@sundialwire.com.
