In twisted pair wire each of the two conductors is covered in cloth braid and then the wires are twisted together.
Sundial Wire's overbraid cord is a cloth-covered cord with three conductors contained in one cord. Because there is no padding, the spiral of the twisted wires gives the cord a wonderful texture.
Single-conductor wire is constructed of one copper wire, either stranded or solid core, which is covered in PVC insulation and a cotton or rayon braid. All of our wires are stranded except for our 12-gauge single-conductor knob & tube wire.
This collection features wire styles that are faithful reproductions of electrical cord used from the 1890s through the 1930s. These historically accurate patterns include twisted cotton-covered wire and cotton pulley cord with period-correct tracer configurations—single, double, cross, and quadruple tracers in traditional black and red.
Originally used in early residential and commercial lighting installations, these wire styles are ideal for restoration projects, museum-quality reproductions, and historically sensitive applications where authenticity matters. Available in both UL-listed and non-UL versions to suit different project requirements.
Knob & tube wire is a reproduction of wire used for house wiring from the 1880s to the 1930s. The wire is called "knob and tube" because it was run through porcelain wire clamps, called knobs, to hold it to the wall and tubes to run it through beams.
